Wholey Health

In 2019 I launched Wholey Health, a health coaching business and brand that I started as a side hustle. I chose health coaching because I had always been an athlete and wellness geek, and figured that this level of interest would keep me motivated to grow my business for years to come.

I enrolled in the Institute of Transformational Nutrition (ITN) to earn my nutrition coaching certification and knocked out my courses in record time. The nutrition and coaching side of ramp-up came easily to me... but what I found myself spending hours studying was the business principles behind starting, launching, and automating a successful company (admittedly way more than studying the health side of the biz).

With hindsight 20-20, I look back and realize that I had an absolute blast building out all of the aspects of my personal health coaching brand (how many health coaches do you hear saying that?)! I used my marketing expertise to translate my brand digitally into dozens of powerful (and continuously paying) platforms. I built my own custom website, and hooked it up with the works, housing dozens of conversion funnels, affiliate marketing kickback links, digital downloads, weekly blogs, and a full shop of purchasable digital goodies. I also dove headfirst into building an interactive social community, launching a fully branded Instagram page, Facebook community, Pinterest page, and a weekly email newsletter subscription to boot.

I continued to churn out highly valuable, well-branded and authentic content for a year straight. I focused every ounce of energy around building out healthy content that deeply resonated, inspired, and helped my ideal clients to want to change their health and choose me as their coach. To my astonishment, this diligence paid off.

I watched as my following grew to thousands of new audience members across my social accounts, blog, and email newsletters. I loved the community that I was building and woke up each day motivated to share and help in the ways I knew how - through digital marketing. As time went on, I also found myself easily attracting interviews, partnerships, and new deals with other brands seeking reputable health coaching advice.

All of this should have had me dancing for joy… but I couldn’t ignore the gut feeling that I wasn’t following my true passion. I was touting healthy lifestyles and health coaching, but deep down I was 100x more excited by the business-building and marketing behind my business than the actual act of coaching.

I had to face the music when I realized that, to my horror, my marketing was working too well. I was facing a full lineup of prospective 6-month coaching clients requesting “discovery calls” (the coaching term for sales calls) around the seventh month into my business. Any true health coach would have been thrilled to take on a full roster of dedicated clients, but I wanted to run for the hills. That’s when I knew I had to pivot to my true passion - a business centered on authentic, value-based branding and marketing.

It was time to close the chapter on my health coaching biz and begin fresh, following my true passion and zone of genius. It was time for me to form a company that offers the exact marketing and branding strategies I used to help others create the same results for their businesses.
